Florida SR22 / FR44 / Owner & Non-Owner Insurance Financial Responsibility Information
WESSELL INSURANCE SERVICES operates in Florida and 40 other states. Within the state of Florida, an SR22 / FR44 insurance policy can be issued to reinstate your driver’s license due to a past offense. The Secretary of State’s office in Tallahassee oversees the citizens of the state of Florida, and monitors the status of all drivers licenses. If you have had certain violations in Florida, you will need to satisfy them to recover your license. This process of communication occurs between appointed insurance companies and the state. The SR22 / FR44 system of communication is the tool to accomplish the license release.
The newest insurance tracking program in Florida is the FR-44 insurance filing. This type of policy is similar to the SR-22 in that it will take care of your license, and you can insure a vehicle as well. (Non-owner policies can be written as FR-44 also, just like the SR22)
The Florida FR44 requirement has been in effect since 02/01/2008, following Virginia as the second state to participate. The liability limits are the only difference here, 100/300 bodily injury, and 50 (in thousands) – property damage. This is up from the SR22 minimums of 10/20 and 10 on PD. The FR44 requirement is given to alcohol offenders, and some others meeting certain state criteria.
The idea is that if a higher level of coverage is carried, the state as a whole will be better protected. The process for obtaining an FR44 is simple, just like an SR22. Call or fill out an online form, and include your driver’s license number so we can run the MVR, and then you can put it in place right over the phone. We will complete the FR44 form, and forward it to the state for processing.
If you are a resident of another state, but still need to file SR-22, or FR-44 in Florida, we may be able to help you. Please contact us for more information.
A non-owner policy can be purchased if there are no automobile registered in your name, and that applies to all states. However, a non owner policy can be purchased if there is a vehicle/s in the household, but not registered to your name. The exception to this rule is a husband and wife who own a vehicle. In that scenario, the vehicle has to be listed.
