Washington SR-22 Auto Insurance Financial Responsibility Information
An SR22 auto insurance in the state of Washington can be obtained in two different ways: with or without a vehicle. A non-owner SR22 policy or broad-form SR22 policy will release the license if there is no car to cover by the insured, or if there is already insurance in place. The premiums in more urban parts of Washington like Seattle and Tacoma run a bit higher, so a broad form SR22 is usually best.
A non-owner policy can be purchased if there are no automobile registered in your name, and that applies to all states. However, a non owner policy can be purchased if there is a vehicle/s in the household, but not registered to your name. The exception to this rule is a husband and wife who own a vehicle. In that scenario, the vehicle has to be listed.
in some states a broad form can be purchased, in addition to your existing policy, and that applies to the state of Washington. Please contact us for specific information regarding a broad form policy to see if that suits your situation.
Another method to satisfy Olympia’s SR-22 requirement is to insure a car through one of the companies with which WESSELL INSURANCE SERVICES is contracted. This would be a traditional insurance policy, with an SR-22 endorsement to release the hold on an individual’s license. This (AAMVA) uniform financial responsibility filing (SR22) is backed by the American Association of Motor Vehicle Advocates. This is the federal agency that oversees the SR22 system, and permits the license release. The state of Washington would require minimum coverage on the motor vehicle, with the option of additional coverage for physical protection. The SR22 works in the same manner, releasing the license and keeping it valid as long as the policy stays in force. If the auto policy should cancel for any reason (usually due to nonpayment), then Olympia would be notified of the policy status, and the license would be suspended again. This notification is referred to as an SR-26 form, and it works opposite the SR-22.
WESSELL INSURANCE SERVICES contracts with several auto insurance companies in Washington State to meet either of the above scenarios. Within our stable of companies, WESSELL INSURANCE SERVICES can match your needs with an affordable plan to take care of your license and your vehicles if necessary. All of these transactions are completed over the phone, and instated the same day. WESSELL INSURANCE SERVICES is directly set up with Olympia for the transfer of information, and the filing is always done same-day, with a copy issued to the insured within the paperwork. Signatures for the acceptance of terms is required to be returned to us within a day or so, as well as the initial payment made over the phone via credit/debit card. We have found this method to be the easiest, and safest way to transact business coast-to-coast.
If you are not a current resident of Washington, but have had some troubles there in the past, you will still have to file an SR22 with Olympia to release any license hold, no matter your current state residence. This will always be done through a non-owner SR22, or broad-form SR22 filing. There can never be any vehicles on this type of policy, and you will have to maintain local insurance as well on any vehicles that you own. The nice part about this is there is no restriction on where you currently live. It would be a Washington State SR22 policy, with an out-of-state mailing address.
